this evening, we were out at dinner with my dad for some pizza and salad. when our waitress had brought the check, she had told us that some customers who were sitting next to us had hooked us up. apparently, if you have a movie ticket stub, you can get 10% off your food. since we haven't seen a movie since Toy Story 3, we were lucky enough for these random citizens to donate their discount to us. how nice was that, you say? well, mathematically, 10% of not a lot is hardly anything. but it wasn't the 10% that hit home with me. it was the act.
someone more famous than me once said "practice random acts of kindness", and surely this was random. we didn't know anyone in the restaurant besides my wife's boss, but he was taken off the suspect list when we realized he was sitting on the other side of the restaurant. but why us? was it because our kids are so stinkin' cute?

what it does remind me is that even in our most hectic times in our lives, there's never a shortage of fellow humans and animals (and plants for that matter) that could use a random act of kindness. for me, it's been an awkwardly-stress-filled week for some reason or another and thanks to my smokin' hot wife for putting up with 30 minutes of yoga, and this random act of kindness, my meaningless tirade of stress is gone. sure, i can think of it and start to stress, but i'd rather think of ways to attack some random beings with an act of kindness. after all, it's not the 10%, its giving it.

we miss you guys! there is a sweet home for sale across the street from us!!! they just told us today they are selling it. they need a wheel chair accessible home for their baby now in a wheelchair. BUY IT BUY IT!
